Can we give facelift in dental implants? - Dr. Deepa Jayashankar | Doctors' Circle

I would  like  to  say with pride  and with  all certainity that  of course you  can do a  facelift when you are  doing dental implants. What exactly do we  mean  by doing  dental implants. Most of these patients  coming to us  are those  who  have  lost their   teeth and a  sequel  of the loss of teeth they have  loss of  bone and  because  of the loss of bone in the  upper  and the  lower  arches, the  lower  facial height is  reduced, making  them more and more toddler  than their chronological  ages. So when they come to us  they are  not coming   only for teeth but for some of the cosmetic  treatment  as  well  because   they want to treat  the  cosmetic   treatment   as well where they want to lift the way their  faces  have drooped  down because  of the  lops  of bone.  We can do  dental implants    and give a face lift in the form of  hybrid  dentures   where it supports the last bone  and the gums and the oral cavity   sand the oral  tissues. Many at times  the patients  do  not have  good amount of bone because there is  complete loss  of  their facial height. In certain cases if the bone is not   there   we  cannot drill the implant because we  require the  bone to drill the implant. Today  we  have   lot  of options where  we  drill the implant  into the  zygomatic  bone, which  is a  higher bone in the face, the  ptyerygoid  bone that is above  the  maxillary bone. So it is not that we dont depends on the   mandibular  or the maxillary  arches.  We  take  support  from other   bone   as  well to  improve the appearance of the face,  the  esthetics the confidence of  the  patient by  giving  a  fixed  implant supported denture.  So as a   prosthodontics  we can improve  the  quality of life of  all these  patients   who have  taken a set back because of their face  dropping   or their loss of teeth.
