Can medication help in management of Tinnitus? |Dr. Gayatri S Pandit
Tinnitus is a buzzing sound in the ear. It can be cause by various reasons like a simple reason like an impacted wax in the external ear, any fungus infection or any discharge in the ear, fluid in the middle ear nerve weakness or it can be because of tumors in the ear nerve called as acoustic tumors. Now treating those symptoms will relieve the symptoms of tinnitus also such as removing the wax in the case of impacted wax or putting in a groet in case of a middle ear effusions or in a patient of elderly who is suffering from hearing loss and impacted wax. But unfortunately in most of the patients, the reason still remains a question. Some of the drugs that can improve the blood circulation like a neurostimulator or a ginco biloba, vinpocetine, are found to be useful in some group of patients. Cognitive therapy, sound therapy, tinnitus retraining therapy is also an integral part of tinnitus management.
