What is Airplane Ear? |Dr. Gayatri S Pandit
Airplane ear is a condition of the middle ear due to a sudden or a rapid change in the pressure of the middle ear. Now we have a tube which connects from the nose to the ear called as eustachian tube. This eustachian tube buffers the pressure between the external environment and the middle ear. During takeoff and landing, there is a sudden drop in the pressure because of the sudden changes in the pressure this tube can get locked and there will be a negative pressure between this middle ear and that can cause transudation of fluid into the idle ear. This condition is called as the Airplane ear
