"Asian Indian Phenotype" by Dr. Mala Dharmalingam
Dr. Mala Dharmalingam is an endocrinology specialist in Bengaluru. She has been honored with many awards and orations including Endocrine Society of India in Kolkata 2012, Banting and Best Oration from Diabetic association of India, Nagpur 2012. She has also received Vocational Rotary Excellence Award from MGR University in Chennai. She has been the Chairman for Karnataka RSSDI, and Vice president and Endocrine Society. She is currently part of Diabetes task force of the Government of Karnataka. There are many factors contributing in obesity and diabetes. One of the contributing factors for increased insulin resistance that needs to be considered is the “Asian Indian phenotype”. Indian phenotype consists of higher rates of central obesity and increased visceral fat.
