Every child deserves a doctor who sees them completely - not just the illness in front of them, but the family behind them, the developmental stage they are at, and the long-term wellbeing they are growing toward. As a Consultant Paediatrician and Pediatric Allergy Specialist in Bangalore, that is the care I set out to provide to every child who walks into my consultation room. I am Dr. Animesh Debbarma, and my practice is built on the understanding that comprehensive, personalised, evidence-based care produces better outcomes than symptom-by-symptom management alone.
My Qualifications and Training
I completed my MBBS followed by my MD in Pediatrics, which gave me the broad clinical foundation to manage the full range of childhood illnesses - from newborn assessment and management of common childhood infections to complex developmental and nutritional concerns. What shaped my practice most specifically, however, was the additional training I pursued through the DAACI, the Diploma in Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology. This training gave me the tools to evaluate and manage the allergic and respiratory conditions that are now among the most prevalent chronic childhood illnesses, and it is what allows me to offer an integrated approach - combining general paediatric care with specialist allergy expertise - in one consultation.
What I Focus On
My clinical interests span the whole of childhood, from the first days of life through to adolescence. Newborn care holds a particular place in my practice - the neonatal period is one of the most critical windows in a child's development, and careful assessment, parental education, and structured follow-up in these early weeks makes a real difference to outcomes. Growth and developmental monitoring is another area I give significant attention to, because early identification of developmental concerns allows early intervention, which consistently produces better results than waiting. I also manage the full spectrum of childhood infections and common paediatric illnesses, always with an eye on prevention through appropriate immunisation and preventive healthcare.
My Approach to Allergy and Asthma
The rise in childhood allergic disease over the past two decades has been remarkable. Asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic eczema, and food allergies are now among the most common conditions I see - and they are also among the most undertreated, partly because their symptoms are frequently attributed to something else and partly because families are not always aware that effective, evidence-based treatment exists.
My DAACI training allows me to go beyond a symptomatic diagnosis and ask what is driving the allergic disease. I evaluate children with recurrent wheeze, persistent cough, nasal congestion, skin reactions, and suspected food allergy with a structured approach that identifies the specific allergens involved and tailors management accordingly. Correct inhaler technique, allergen avoidance strategies, and in some cases allergy-directed treatment can transform the quality of life for a child living with poorly controlled asthma or rhinitis. For children with food allergies, a written emergency action plan and adrenaline auto-injector guidance is part of every consultation where anaphylaxis risk has been identified.
My Philosophy of Care
I believe that the best paediatric care is family-centred. Parents bring their children to me with genuine concern and often a great deal of worry. My role is not just to diagnose and prescribe, but to explain clearly what is happening, why the treatment I am recommending is appropriate, and what to watch for going forward. A parent who understands their child's condition is a much more effective partner in that child's care than one who has been handed a prescription without an explanation.
