Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in Indian children, and the honest answer is that you often cannot tell from diet history or symptoms alone. Many children have low iron stores without obvious pallor or fatigue. In my practice I screen systematically with a blood test rather than waiting for symptoms to appear, because iron deficiency affects brain development, immunity, and energy long before it looks obvious. If deficiency is confirmed, I prescribe with a clear dose, duration, and dietary plan alongside.
