Parents should seek urgent medical assessment for symptoms such as significant breathing difficulty, bluish lips, seizures, unusual drowsiness or unresponsiveness, severe dehydration, persistent vomiting, serious injury or a severe allergic reaction. A newborn with poor feeding, breathing difficulty, unusual lethargy or significant changes in behaviour also warrants prompt assessment. When symptoms appear severe or rapidly worsen, emergency medical care should not be delayed.
