Success of Dental Implants in age above 60 years
Yes, when we say the success of an implant in a 60 year old I would like to weigh the success regarding the time and the extensive surgical procedure s that a patient has to undergo and also the longevity of the prosthesis in that particular patient because when we say 60 year old, as you can see there are going to be age related changes and as the statistics goes every person these days is diabetic. So they are going to have some associated condition when they are coming to ask above 60 for a Dental Implant treatment and having said that we also have to look at the quality and the quantity of the bone that the patient is having, for how long the patient has lost the tooth and because as a sequel of tooth loss, here is a resorption one, that is a continuous process. So we have to see what is the quality of bone and we have to shoot certain x-rays and scans, like for a maxillary pr upper jaw the amount of resorption poses some problems as in the maxillary sinus is very close to the bone, the nerve bundles and vessel s being in proximity f the implant if we have to drill it. Similarly mandibular the lower jaw we have to see the proximity of the mandibular nerve, because the resorption of bone pattern is going to be faster in the lower jaw so considering these factors, the success , we will have to see how much of invasive procedure the patient has to undergo and we have to see the longevity of the prosthesis. So having said that, we had a patient with edentulous upper jaw and dint like the conventional denture. So an implant retained denture is the most comfortable treatment . We planned to drill about 6 implants and over that there is going to be a denture that is going to be fixed and it is not removable. So the patients comfort is of esthetics or the way she looks or in terms of looks or mastication or the speech is dramatically improved with dental implants.
