He obtained MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017 and subsequently completed MCh in GI Surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. He later obtained FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

His academic performance has also been recognised nationally. He secured the 13th rank in the NEET Super Speciality examination in 2017 and received a Gold Medal from Amrita University after securing top marks in his MCh GI Surgery final examinations.

Experience in Liver Transplantation and HPB Surgery

Liver transplantation and HPB surgery require extensive surgical training and coordinated multidisciplinary care. Dr. Guhan has been involved in more than 300 liver transplant surgeries and has experience in living donor and deceased donor transplantation. He is also trained in living donor hepatectomy through open and robotic approaches and has performed more than 30 multi-organ retrieval procedures involving the liver, kidneys and pancreas in India and the UK.

His international experience includes serving as a Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Royal Free Hospital, London. He also undertook a one-month fellowship visit to the Department of HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Mie University Hospital, Japan.

Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery plays an increasingly important role in gastrointestinal and HPB care. Dr. Guhan has advanced laparoscopic skills and experience in robotic liver donor and cancer surgery. He has performed more than 30 robotic procedures and received certification as a da Vinci console surgeon in 2024. His CV records experience of more than 1,000 benign surgeries and over 500 cancer surgeries, performed through laparoscopic and open approaches.

Combining Clinical Care, Teaching and Research

Alongside clinical practice, Dr. Guhan contributes to surgical education, workshops and research. He has served as faculty for multi-organ retrieval, liver resection and laparoscopic colorectal workshops and has teaching experience in GI Surgery and Solid Organ Transplantation. His research publications cover liver transplantation, acute liver failure, HPB surgery and minimally invasive donor hepatectomy.
