Allergic rhinitis is one of the common, yet commonly ignored disease. One out of every 6 people is suffering from allergic rhinitis. Worldwide around 500 million people are suffering from allergic rhinitis. About 40% of the people who have allergic rhinitis have allergic asthma also as their co morbidities. other conditions which we see with allergic rhinitis are the chronic sinusitis, otitis media with effusion, that means to say that the fluid within the ear, sinonasal polyposis, recurrent upper respiratory tract infections or sleep related disorders such as inability to fall asleep or frequent awakenings or maybe unable to lie down flat. Allergic rhinitis causes disturbances in the productivity, impairs the daily activity and also impairs the quality of life. The effective treatment for allergic rhinitis would be a holistic approach, which includes patient education, allergen avoidance and effective pharmacotherapic treatment to control the symptoms and to reduce the hypersensitivity, the immunotherapy.
