How to Avoid Pollen Allergy | Dr Gayatri S Pandit
Pollen is a very fine powder produced by trees, flowers, grasses, and weeds to fertilize other plants of the same species. While pollen plays an essential role in plant reproduction, it is also one of the most common causes of allergies worldwide. Pollen grains are lightweight and easily carried by wind, making them difficult to avoid, especially during certain seasons.
In people with pollen allergies, the immune system mistakenly identifies pollen as a harmful substance. As a result, the body releases chemicals such as histamine, which trigger allergic reactions. These reactions may include sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy or watery eyes, throat irritation, coughing, and sometimes difficulty in breathing. Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to severe allergic responses that affect daily activities and quality of life.
