When should I worry if my newborn is not gaining enough weight?

Some variation in early weight is expected, but persistent poor weight gain, difficulty feeding, frequent vomiting, reduced urine output or unusual sleepiness should be discussed with a paediatrician or neonatologist. Growth should be assessed over time rather than based on a single weight measurement.
