Meet Dr. Nivedeeta Pereira: ENT Care With an Allergy Perspective in the Heart of Goa

There is a recurring pattern I see in my practice in Margao. A patient who has been having ear infections every few months. A patient whose nose has been blocked for years and who has learned to consider it normal. A patient whose voice has changed and who cannot pinpoint why. Each of them has been to various clinics and been given treatment for the presenting episode  -  antibiotics for the ear infection, decongestants for the nose, a referral to a speech therapist for the voice  -  but no one has asked the connecting question: why do these symptoms keep coming back? That question is the foundation of my practice.

My Qualifications and What They Add to ENT Practice

My DLO, the Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology, is the clinical ENT qualification that covers the evaluation and management of conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, larynx, and upper airway. Eleven years of practice at Dr. Nivedeeta's ENT and Allergy Center in Margao have built the clinical experience across more than 10,000 patients that makes a specialist genuinely useful  -  not just clinically capable but pattern-recognising in a way that takes years to develop.

My AASC and AAAIC qualifications  -  Advanced Allergy and Asthma Specialist Course and Advanced Allergy and Asthma in Clinical Immunology  -  are what distinguish my ENT practice from a conventional ENT practice. Most ENT consultations evaluate the presenting symptom in the ear, nose, or throat and manage it. My AASC and AAAIC training gives me the framework to evaluate whether the symptom is being driven by an underlying allergic sensitisation  -  and if it is, to address that sensitisation rather than only treating the symptom. In Goa, where the coastal humid climate creates a year-round allergen burden of house dust mite and mould, this matters enormously for patients whose ENT symptoms are chronic and recurrent.

Why Goa Needs Allergy-Integrated ENT Care

Goa's environment is beautiful, but it is also allergenic. The high humidity that characterises the coastal and post-monsoon climate supports year-round house dust mite proliferation at levels higher than drier inland regions. Mould is pervasive in older Goan homes, which retain moisture in walls and roofing. Cockroach allergen in urban Margao households is significant. And the tourist population brings additional patterns  -  visitors who develop symptoms during their stay and cannot understand why their nose or ears are behaving differently in Goa.

For patients who live here, the consequences of untreated allergy in this environment include persistent sinusitis that recurs after every antibiotic course, Eustachian tube dysfunction that predisposes to middle ear fluid and recurrent ear infections, and voice changes from post-nasal drip dripping continuously onto the vocal cords. The allergy is the engine; the ENT symptoms are the outputs. When I identify and treat the allergy, I change the trajectory of the ENT disease  -  fewer ear infections, better sinus control, and a voice that improves because the post-nasal drip driving it has been addressed.

My Practice  -  What to Expect

At Dr. Nivedeeta's ENT and Allergy Center, Margao, every consultation begins with a thorough clinical history that goes beyond the presenting episode. I want to understand the pattern of a patient's symptoms  -  their duration, frequency, seasonality, and the environments that make them better or worse. I evaluate the allergy contribution where relevant, manage the acute ENT condition with appropriate treatment, and build a longer-term management plan that addresses both. Whether you are coming with an ear complaint, persistent nasal symptoms, vertigo, or a voice concern, the goal is the same: to understand what is causing your symptoms, explain it clearly, and offer you a path to better long-term control rather than an indefinite cycle of treatment for recurring episodes. I welcome patients from across Margao and Goa to the consultation.
