Born into a family that encouraged ambition, she was raised with the belief that she could achieve anything. Her father, especially, reminded her that “there’s nothing you cannot do.” This positive mindset shaped her approach to both life and medicine.

From Arts to Obstetrics

Though her first choices were pediatrics or orthopedics, destiny led her to obstetrics. Her husband, a cardiac surgeon, playfully convinced her to take up a “busy subject” so she wouldn’t get bored—and that led her to women’s healthcare.

Initially unsure, she soon found a deep sense of purpose in helping women through every stage of life. Whether it was delivering babies, supporting infertility journeys, or offering emotional care—Dr. Lavanya realised this was more than a career. It was her calling.

Stepping into Robotics

Her entry into robotic surgery is one of courage and commitment. She was initially hesitant—wanting full training before taking on such advanced technology. But her senior pushed her to believe in herself. So, she practiced on simulators, prepared herself mentally, and performed her first robotic surgery successfully.

In just nine days after certification, she had completed 11 surgeries—a record in India. Her dedication to learning and precision made her stand out in a field often dominated by men.

Introducing Doria: Postnatal Care with Heart

Dr. Lavanya believes healthcare shouldn’t end with delivery. She has seen firsthand how mothers are often forgotten once the baby is born. Many suffer silently with breastfeeding issues, body changes, fatigue, or even postnatal depression.

To fill this gap, she founded Doria—a holistic postnatal care initiative. At Doria, mothers receive everything from lactation support and nutrition to massage therapy and emotional healing. It's a safe space for mothers to recover and feel cared for.

Her vision is simple: "Healthy mothers create healthy families."

Balancing Life: Family and Medicine

With her demanding schedule across multiple hospitals and clinics, you’d think personal life takes a back seat. But Dr. Lavanya finds joy in small moments with her family—watching her son head to college, sharing a cup of tea, or caring for her plants.

During the pandemic, she returned to gardening—growing papayas and flowers in her terrace garden, finding calm in the middle of chaos.
