Acute ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Decisive, timely intervention can mean the difference between full recovery and lifelong impairment. At the forefront of transforming stroke care in India is Dr. Robin Harshvardhan Gupta, whose focused training and clinical experience have helped expand access to advanced neuroendovascular treatments across Bangalore and beyond.
Dr. Gupta’s fascination with stroke neurosurgery began during his MCh Neurosurgery residency at GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi (2015–2018). There, he witnessed firsthand the dramatic effect of intra-arterial thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy in restoring blood flow to critically occluded arteries. This inspired him to master the full range of neuroendovascular procedures—digital subtraction angiography (DSA), mechanical thrombectomy, carotid stenting, embolization, and more.
Since then, Dr. Gupta has brought his expertise to multiple premier hospitals in Bangalore. As Lead Consultant Neurosurgeon and Stroke Interventionist at People Tree Hospitals and Sagar Hospitals from 2018 to 2023, he performed hundreds of emergent thrombectomies and achieved meaningful neurological recovery in many patients who would otherwise face permanent disability. Working in fast-paced multidisciplinary stroke teams, he fine-tuned his clinical protocols to reduce door-to-needle times and ensure seamless coordination between neurology, radiology, anesthesiology, and critical care.
In September 2023, he took on the role of Head of Neurosciences at GM Hospitals, Bangalore overseeing not only stroke interventions but the entire neurovascular program. Under his leadership, the hospital introduced a 24×7 code-stroke alert system, CT angiography as standard for suspected strokes, and a dedicated intervention suite. This resulted in a significant uptick in treatment success rates and patient satisfaction.
Dr. Gupta’s efforts are backed by rigorous academic commitment too. He won “Best Oral Paper” awards at NSSI 2017 and SPINE-2017 for his presentations on neurosurgical interventions including stroke-related research. He frequently leads CMEs and workshops on stroke protocols and participates in journal clubs to stay ahead of global advances.
Behind the scenes, Dr. Gupta is passionate about expanding stroke care to underserved areas. He collaborates with public health initiatives to train rural practitioners in post-stroke management and tele-neurology systems, thereby bridging the urban–rural healthcare gap.
In summary, Dr. Gupta exemplifies the ideal blend of clinical mastery, systems leadership, and educational zeal making him a leading figure in stroke intervention in India.
