My newborn loses weight in the first few days-is this normal and when should I be concerned?

Weight loss of up to 10 percent of birth weight in the first few days is normal - newborns lose fluid and establish feeding. Weight loss greater than 10 percent, or failure to regain birth weight by 10 to 14 days, warrants a feeding assessment with your paediatrician.
