IUI, or intrauterine insemination, involves placing prepared sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It is a simpler procedure appropriate for mild male factor infertility, ovulatory disorders, or unexplained infertility after initial evaluation. IVF involves stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, fertilising them in the laboratory, and transferring the resulting embryo into the uterus. IVF is recommended when tubal blockage, severe endometriosis, significant male factor, or diminished ovarian reserve is present, or when IUI cycles have not succeeded.
