Will my child always outgrow a food allergy, or do some persist for life?

Whether a food allergy resolves depends on the specific food. Milk and egg allergies commonly improve as children grow, with many children tolerating these foods by school age. Peanut and tree nut allergies are more likely to persist into adulthood, though some children do develop tolerance. Fish and shellfish allergies are also typically lifelong. Regular follow-up with an allergy specialist is important because outgrowing an allergy should be confirmed through careful clinical assessment rather than assumed. Reintroducing an allergenic food without specialist guidance can be dangerous.
