Dr. Ravi Gopal Varma is a neurosurgeon with over three decades of experience in Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, and Complex Brain and Spine Surgery. As the Director of the Global Centre of Excellence in Neurosciences at Aster Hospitals, Bangalore, he has played a key role in establishing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) programs in India. He completed his Clinical Fellowship in Functional & Stereotactic Neurosurgery at London Health Sciences Center, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
He follows an evidence-based, patient-centric approach to neurosurgical care, with a focus on detailed evaluation, treatment planning, and continuity of care. He is involved in research and clinical practice aimed at improving the safety and effectiveness of treatments for neurological disorders. Dr. Varma maintains a structured approach to care with an emphasis on long-term outcomes and quality of life.
1. Functional & Stereotactic Neurosurgery: He is highly acclaimed for treating movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, tremors, and dystonia with exceptional precision. His advanced training in Canada allows him to perform Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and stereotactic procedures with world-class accuracy and outcomes.

Gordon Brown. He is the first Neurosurgeon to be invited to speak at the HT Summit, where he spoke on “Unravelling the Brain’s Enigmas”.

Dr. Varma also has the distinction of having conducted the first successful DBS surgery for Neuroacanthosis in India and third in the world.
