In selected patients with oligometastatic disease, where cancer has spread to only a few sites and responds well to systemic therapy, achieving long-term remission is a realistic goal. This is not possible for every Stage 4 patient. Candidacy depends on the number of metastases, the pace of spread, the cancer type, and the response to initial treatment. A detailed evaluation is needed before any treatment intent is determined.
